Basics: Red dots on the radar are alien nests. Face towards them and try to keep them all on one side, so you're not surrounded by nests and aliens don't come up behind you. Practice aiming with the mouse while moving around with the cursor keys. It takes a bit of getting used to, but once you do you'll have a lot of fun with this game.
Advanced play: Collect power-ups and move around the screen after a level has finished. The screen will go dark, but you can use this time to move to the edge before the next level starts. That way you can avoid starting the next level surrounded by aliens. Some power-ups stay on screen into the next level. Keep your ammo topped up, but don't use power-ups needlessly as you can only carry a set amount. Leave some scattered around, as you'll need them when the levels get tougher.
